Dr. Richard Carrier

Dr. Carrier is a historian and philosopher specializing in the intellectual history of ancient Greece and Rome as well as in metaphysical naturalism. Dr. Carrier has written or contributed to several important works including, as author, Not The Impossible Faith, Sense and Goodness Without God, and Why I am Not a Christian; plus, as contributor, The Empty Tomb, The Christian Delusion and The End of Christianity. We talked to Dr. Carrier months prior to the release of his then eagerly awaited, but now available, first volume of his two volumes on the historical Jesus. Dr. Carrier joined us to talk about Bayes’ Theorem and historical method plus Christian origins.

We’re so pleased to have had Dr. Carrier join us a second time, this time on the release of the first of two volumes on the question of a historical Jesus— Proving History: Bayes’s Theorem and the Quest of the Historical Jesus. Does the methodology in use by Jesus historians work? Is the evidence we have for Jesus’s existence of the quality that we would expect if indeed he had existed?
